NOTICE CONCERNING COMPONENTS MADE FROM GLASS FILLED POLYAMIDE 12 (PA12-GF) USING SELECTIVE LASER SINTERING (SLS) TEMPORARY INTERRUPTION OF SUPPLY
On the 31 March 2012 a fire and explosion destroyed an Evonik manufacturing facility, which plays a key role in the manufacture of materials used to produce Polyamide 12 (PA12). The plant is expected to be out of action for several months.
This has had a severe impact across many industries, so all users of PA12 including RP providers worldwide, are likely to be affected by this incident. CRDM currently has sufficient supply of materials to continue with the manufacture of PA12 components. However at the present time, CRDM can no longer supply parts manufactured from Glass Filled PA12-GF. CRDM is taking this opportunity to replace the PA12-GF product with a PA11-GF material, which is expected to exhibit some improved characteristics over the traditional PA12-GF material. This new PA11-GF is undergoing trials at the present time, and it is expected that it will be available shortly. Non-filled PA12 materials are unaffected at this time. Due to the length of time expected to repair the PA12 supply chain, CRDM is also currently testing alternatives to the PA12 material. With immediate effect CRDM will be supplying quotations for SLS components in non-filled PA12 materials only and due to its wide range of RP services, the team at CRDM will continue to work with its customers to minimise any disruption to their projects. As the current PA12 supply chain situation continues to unfold, please return to this page for any updates.
